Toy Safety Awareness Month Kicks off Nov. 1

toy safety awareness month logoOctober 14, 2024 | On Friday, November 1, The Toy Association™ will kick off the fourth annual Toy Safety Awareness Month, an industry-wide initiative that champions safe play and responsible toy shopping during the height of the holiday shopping season. Sponsored by the Association and its PlaySafe.org resource, the month-long campaign aims to educate parents and caregivers about safe toy shopping and safe play, and to encourage companies and individuals working in the play industry to share helpful safety tips and advice with consumers.

Toy safety is the No. 1 priority of The Toy Association and toy & game manufacturers, whose products adhere to more than 100 rigorous safety standards and tests before being placed on store shelves. Toy Safety Awareness Month serves as a perfect opportunity to showcase these efforts to the media, consumers, and NGOs, while countering misleading reports from some groups that exploit the holiday shopping season to raise unfounded concerns about toy safety.

“Toy Safety Awareness Month is an important reminder that fun and safety should always go hand in hand,” said Joan Lawrence, The Toy Association’s “Toy Safety Mom” and senior vice president of standards and regulatory affairs. “This initiative empowers consumers with essential resources, including valuable tips for holiday toy shopping and how to avoid counterfeit toys, and encourages everyone in the play industry to actively share safety information with their contacts. Together, we can help consumers make informed decisions so that every gift this holiday season brings joy and is safely enjoyed by children and families.”

Manufacturers, retailers, and any other professionals working in the business of play, as well as parents, caregivers, grandparents, and any other individuals, are encouraged to get involved. Participation in Toy Safety Awareness Month demonstrates a commitment to being an advocate for safe play.

Simply follow The Toy Association on LinkedIn and Facebook and share content related to safety using #ToySafetyAwarenessMonth and #PlaySafe in all posts. Throughout the month, The Toy Association will be highlighting a different aspect of toy safety and related assets that can be shared online or printed out and shared in stores with consumers, including:
