Immediate Feedback Needed on 145% Tariff Impact

April 14, 2025 | The Toy Association™ is asking members to respond to a brief, two-question anonymous survey to help assess the impact of 145% tariffs on imports from China. Responses are urgently needed by Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. (Eastern) and will directly inform The Toy Association’s advocacy on this critical matter.

Survey links were sent to the main contacts at Toy Association member companies on Monday, April 14; members are urged to check their inboxes for an email with the subject line “URGENT RESPONSE NEEDED: How Will Tariffs Impact You?”

“The Toy Association is aggressively advocating for a tariff exemption for toys and your input helps us make the strongest case possible,” said Kathrin Belliveau, chief policy officer at The Toy Association. “With tariffs of this magnitude on the table, it is more important than ever for us to understand how your business will be affected.”

This call to action comes on the heels of recent developments, as previously shared in an email update to the full Toy Association membership over the weekend:

  • On April 11, the White House released a rule exempting several electronic products from recently imposed tariffs on Chinese imports.

The exemptions include smartphones, computers, semiconductors, solar cells, flat panel displays, flash drives, memory cards, and solid-state drives. Importantly, the move signals the Administration’s willingness to consider product-specific exclusions as The Toy Association continues to aggressively advocate for a toy exemption from tariffs.

  • As of April 9, the following additional tariff changes are in effect:

    • China: The total tariff rate on goods imported from China has been raised to 145%.
    • Reciprocal Tariffs: Implementation of country-specific reciprocal tariffs has been paused for 90 days to allow for further negotiations. The 10% baseline tariff remains in effect.
    • Canada & Mexico: A tariff pause remains in place for all products that comply with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The Toy Association™ remains actively engaged in discussions about tariffs to ensure the voice of the toy industry is heard by congressional leaders and White House officials. The Toy Association’s President & CEO Greg Ahearn, Chief Policy Officer Kathrin Belliveau, and Toy Association members have been spreading awareness about the impact tariffs on toys would have on American families and businesses across a broad range of media outlets, including: Newsmax, Fox Business, CNN Business, CNBC, NBC News, ABC News, and more.

The Toy Association has developed key talking points for conversations with representatives relating to tariffs. Companies that would like to use The Toy Association’s resources and template letters, as well as information on how they can connect with their federal representatives, may reach out to Kathrin Belliveau, chief policy officer at The Toy Association.
