Tariffs on Imports from China Rise to 20% as Mexico & Canada Paused Until April 2

March 7, 2025 | As previously shared in an email update to the full Toy Association membership, President Trump has announced a delay in the implementation of tariffs on goods imported from Mexico and Canada until April 2. This decision follows the president’s March 3 announcement of sweeping 25 percent tariffs on goods entering the United States from Mexico and Canada, which initially took effect at 12:01 a.m. on March 4.

More information is available in the executive orders for Mexico and Canada.

However, the 10 percent tariffs on China imports that were already in effect increased to 20 percent as of March 4. The increase took effect with no exemption process in place. Click here for more information in the signed executive order.

The Toy Association™ remains actively engaged in discussions about tariffs to ensure the voice of the toy industry is heard by congressional leaders and White House officials. The Toy Association’s President & CEO Greg Ahearn, Chief Policy Officer Kathrin Belliveau, and Toy Association members have been spreading awareness about the impact tariffs on toys would have on American families and businesses. The conversation was also top-of-mind with media last weekend at Toy Fair®, which took place March 1 to 4 at the Javits Center in New York City.

The Toy Association has developed key talking points for conversations with representatives relating to tariffs. Companies that would like to use The Toy Association’s resources and template letters, as well as information on how they can connect with their federal representatives, may reach out to Kathrin Belliveau, chief policy officer at The Toy Association.
