REMINDER: Chemical Reporting in Vermont to Begin on Jan. 1, 2017
Nov. 9 Webinar to Provide TIA Members with Information about New Online Reporting System
September 28, 2016 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is reminding members and industry stakeholders that chemical reporting for children’s products sold in Vermont will be required beginning on January 1, 2017.
Companies will be required to use the Vermont Department of Health’s new online reporting system to notify the government when their products contain one or more chemicals of high concern to children, as outlined in Act 188, a law regulating toxic substances in the state. These chemicals may be intentionally added to a children’s product to serve a particular function or may be present as contaminants.
TIA will host a webinar on November 9th to help members and other stakeholders familiarize themselves with the online tool.
“Companies will be required to notify the state if their products sold in Vermont contain one or more of the 66 chemicals of high concern to children listed in the state law,” said Owen Caine, TIA director of state government affairs. “Our aim is to ensure industry-wide compliance by sharing important information with toy companies about Act 188, the upcoming reporting date and the online reporting system.”
Details about TIA’s upcoming webinar, including registration information, will be shared in Toy News Tuesday in the coming weeks.
Information about Act 188 and additional guidance for compliance can be found in the Vermont Department of Health’s recently published Chemical Disclosure Program Guidance Document, now available online. The state’s list of chemicals of high concern to children will be reviewed and updated every two years.
