Sustainability Spotlight: Lovevery
April 5, 2022 | As The Toy Association continues to track sustainability trends across the industry, it is highlighting the environmental commitments of members. This week's Sustainability Spotlight is on Lovevery, best known for its stage-based play kits for infants and toddlers.
Since its founding, Lovevery has made helping the planet a central component in its mission to create play products with a purpose for families. Each of its play kits is crafted with a range of sustainable materials including Forest Stewardship Counsel (FSC)-certified wood, organic cotton, OEKO-TEX® fabrics, handcrafted felt, recycled paper, soy-based ink, water-based paints, and bio-based plastics.
Under its Lovevery Commitment, the company established a set of sustainability goals that it continues to strive toward and improve upon. Beyond shipping its products carbon neutral with efficient packaging to reduce waste, Lovevery has set a goal for 90% of the materials used in its products and packaging to be made from third-party verified renewable, biobased, or recycled materials where possible by 2025. It continues to consult with material sourcing experts to minimize its footprint and redesign its products as needed to reach this goal.
The toymaker has also been tracking emissions throughout its supply chain since 2019 to better understand their sources and to reduce and eliminate them to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030. Between January 2019 and February 2022, Lovevery has already offset 13,934 metric tons of carbon from its supply chain (the equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions from 3,002 passenger vehicles a year) and invested in 392 megawatts through Idaho Power's Green Power Program to have 100% renewable energy in its Idaho office space since April 2021.
In addition to investing in renewable materials and energy to power its own business, Lovevery has also invested in projected with 3Degrees, Flexport, and Pachama in partnership with Shopify that are helping reduce global carbon emissions and combating deforestation.
