The Toy Association™ Bestowed “Champion for Children Award” for Outstanding Dedication to Keeping Kids Safe
WASHINGTON, DC | July 25, 2023 – Safe Kids Worldwide recognized The Toy Association™ with the prestigious Champion for Children Award for its outstanding dedication to child injury protection. The Association was honored alongside 15 other individuals, agencies, and organizations at a ceremony held during the first day of the Safe Kids Childhood Injury Prevention Convention (PrevCon) in National Harbor, Maryland, a three-day gathering of more than 500 safety professionals who have joined together to network, learn, and collaborate on efforts to enhance the safety of children.
“On behalf of the toy and play community, we are incredibly honored to receive the Champion for Children Award from Safe Kids Worldwide. This recognition is testament to The Toy Association’s unwavering commitment to safety and our continuing efforts to ensure that toys and play experiences prioritize the well-being of children everywhere,” said Steve Pasierb, president & CEO of The Toy Association. “Relentless dedication to safety is at the heart of everything we do, whether it's educating consumers, actively engaging in legislative activities, or staying vigilant against counterfeits. Having pioneered toy safety standards 40 years ago and continuously evolving them to meet new challenges, this award reinforces the commitment of the Association and our member companies to maintaining toys as one of the safest consumer product categories in homes.”
“We are proud to honor these exceptional leaders for their passion and commitment to making a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities,” said Torine Creppy, president of Safe Kids Worldwide.
Safety is The Toy Association’s top priority. The Association leads the multi-stakeholder committee responsible for overseeing ASTM F963 – Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety, the gold standard in toy safety since 1986. Through ongoing reviews, the committee ensures the standard aligns with the latest child development research, medical data, risk assessment techniques, and manufacturing innovations, maintaining its global recognition and effectiveness.
Public education efforts include PlaySafe.org, the Association’s consumer-focused website that keeps parents and caregivers informed of every aspect of toy and play safety – from selecting age-appropriate toys to the importance of adult-supervised play.
