united states and china flags sitting on a tableAugust 12, 2024 | The Toy Association™ is alerting the toy industry of potential legislative votes as the U.S. House of Representatives leadership considers a period in late September known as "China Week.” The week could feature votes on various China-related bills, including those addressing the de minimis trade threshold and outbound investment, according to Politico.

While the details for China Week have not yet been confirmed, it is anticipated that the House may use this time to build consensus on legislation aimed at countering China's trade practices and national security threats. This follows recent bipartisan and bicameral disagreements over how to address these issues.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated that the goal is to send comprehensive China legislation to the White House by the end of the year. This legislation may include measures to enhance sanctions against Chinese military firms supporting Russia and Iran, as well as restrictions on outbound investments. The bills are expected to be considered individually, which may facilitate bipartisan support.

The Toy Association remains engaged on these developments and will continue to monitor the situation closely to keep members updated as new information emerges.
