Toy Association Webinar to Help Industry Professionals Navigate ASTM F963 Toy Safety Standard Changes

March 1, 2024 | Toy industry professionals are reminded to sign up for “Changes in the ASTM F963 Toy Safety Standard (ASTM F963-23) & How to Comply,” an upcoming webinar taking place Tuesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. (Eastern).

The session will provide attendees with an overview of changes made to the ASTM F963-23 toy safety standard, scheduled to take effect April 20, 2024, with an emphasis on the changes of most importance that may impact manufacturing processes. Additionally, the session will cover the ASTM standards development process, timeline for implementation of the 2023 edition of the standard, and new work items being discussed within ASTM for future revisions.

ASTM F963 is the toy safety standard required of all toys to be sold in the U.S., as mandated in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). Changes have been made to the previous (-17) version of the standard and the new edition was designated as ASTM F963-23, published by ASTM in October 2023 and approved by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, to take effect on April 20, 2024. ASTM F963-23 includes numerous changes since its last update in 2017, including new requirements and improving the clarity and understanding of existing standards (or to align with existing federal regulations).

Registration is now open. The webinar will be presented by The Toy Association’s Joan Lawrence, senior vice president of standards & regulatory affairs, and Jos Huxley, senior vice president of technical affairs. Lawrence also serves as chair of the ASTM F15.22 Subcommittee on Toy Safety and Huxley is the lead technical contact on the same subcommittee. Anne McConnell, the Association’s senior director of market research & educational initiatives, will moderate.

The session is open to Toy Association members and non-members at no cost. It is specifically recommended for toy industry professionals whose responsibilities include product safety, compliance, product design & development, and associated positions.
