Toy Association Continues to Advocate Against Potential Tariffs on Toys

February 14, 2025 | The Toy Association™ is continuing to track President Donald Trump’s announcements regarding tariffs on goods imported into the U.S. – a rapidly evolving issue that will have a significant impact on the global toy industry.

On February 13, President Trump signed a memorandum introducing the “Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Plan,” which “will seek to correct longstanding imbalances in international trade and ensure fairness across the board.” The new tariffs will be customized for each nation/foreign trading partner and could go into effect as early as April 1. Members who source from countries with high tariff rates on U.S. toy imports (including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Brazil) are strongly suggested to contact the local toy associations in those regions to urge the nations to immediately lower their tariffs on U.S. toy imports, in order to avoid U.S. reciprocal tariffs.

More information is available in the Presidential Memorandum and Reciprocal Tariff Fact Sheet released by the White House.

The Toy Association remains actively engaged in discussions on this issue to ensure the voice of the toy industry is heard loud and clear by congressional leaders and White House officials. The Toy Association’s President & CEO Greg Ahearn, Chief Policy Officer Kathrin Belliveau, and Toy Association members have all been spreading awareness about the impact tariffs on toys would have on American families and businesses.

The Toy Association has developed key talking points for conversations with representatives relating to tariffs. Companies that would like to use The Toy Association’s resources and template letters, as well as information on how they can connect with their federal representatives, may reach out to Kathrin Belliveau, chief policy officer at The Toy Association.
